Kung Fu’s Listening Hands
I am very lucky to be studying martial arts under sifu Leo Au Yeung, one of the leading internal wing chun martial arts instructors. Last November he was kind enough to invite me along to some seminars he was conducting in Hong Kong and Vietnam.

One lovely afternoon I met a couple of friends for some additional pre-class wing chun training. We were in Tamar Park with the most incredible view of the water. There was a cool breeze and we were going to practice some chi sau and exchange ideas on internal martial art applications.

It was such a beautiful  spot to be training. We arrived late afternoon just before sunset and the light was magical. Listening Hands is about feeling and understanding what your training partner is doing and it must somehow  enhance all the senses. Suddenly I felt myself overcome with a sense of awareness of things that were happening around me – it was almost like a super power. I felt a  strong urge to take out my camera and try and capture the sense and feeling that we were immersed in.

First it was my friends training, then I caught a wedding shoot in the distance and then some yoga practitioners.

It was an amazing experience – one I will have fond memories of forever.
