Muay Thai Multiple Opponents Multiple Exposure

Muay Thai Multiple Opponents Multiple Exposure Photography Experiment

I was looking through my hard drive and discovered some images that I had forgotten I had taken.

I had a spare night in Bangkok while traveling with some friends to Laos and we decided to pay the famousĀ Lumpinee Muay Thai Boxing stadium a visit.

Muay Thai is a national sport in Thailand, its boxing with kicks and elbow strikes, physically it must be one of the toughest sports out there and extremely skilful.
At the time I was travelling with quite a basic, entry level Nikon, I think the D2000 with kit lens, which I had borrowed from my sister for the trip. I was relatively happy with some of the images and was shooting with auto ISO.
Recently I’ve been thinking a lot about doing a martial art photo project and it was interesting looking back at some of my old picture files and seeing how I viewed things.

I would probably shoot the same scene quite differently now. These were all taken pre my Leica days and I’m very conscious that shooting with my Leica has completely transformed the way I view things.

I also think that if I was to use the same camera I had used then, my style of shooting now would be very different.
Quite a few of the photographs I took were using multi exposures, which is something I have experimented on and off with over the years, mainly as fun but also trying to give a photograph a touch of Impressionism, a different twist I suppose.

It’s actually quite fun looking back at my own photographs and seeing how I’m growing and changing as a photographer. Keeping a record of progress is actually quite important and helps me to stay focused.

Seeing these images has made me try and focus on a few plans and ideas I have and also to try and realise this project over the next couple of years.
