February 22nd

Today is my fathers Birthday (Well so I thought, my sister corrected me, it’s actually the 20th, the birth certificate was issued the 22nd).

When I decided to write my daily notes, I wasn’t really sure what the purpose or the thought behind my daily note taking was. I am into day 22, the 22nd day of keeping a journal and I thought it was  my fathers birthday but I’m 2 days out.

I guess what I have achieved from my note taking is to help me keep focused on taking photographs, to be aware of photography, to be aware of what I do day to day and what  is important. I’m naturally quite lazy and also a procrastinator. The note taking has focused my life and I have realised that I want to be more conscious of what my small daily achievements are, however small.

The days, the months, the years pass us by and sometimes we lose track of time and possibly our goals and our desire to improve. I remind myself that everyday something happens, opportunities present themselves and I have the choice to embrace them. I realise it is important to reflect and give meaning to what I have done, to look back and see if I could do things better or improve.

I was with my mother earlier today and asked if I could take her photograph in dads study, initially she was reluctant, she is never keen on having her picture taken but she gave me a few minutes of her time. As I took mums picture and looked at dads room, I was reminded that everyday he was in his room creating  Art, translating the ideas that floated in his head and making them real, it was this daily practice and pursuit to be creative that filled this room with his memory. Its a special room and it is still alive with his energy.

Happy Belated Birthday Dad

And so surely the years pass by. I fondly remember walking the dogs with your dad SOMETIMES in wandsworth common. Yours was called jeanny( not sure i spelled this correctly and mine alfi). He gave me one of his books wine and opera which i still have in my bookshelf. Reading this bloGpost brings back very lovely memories.

Thank you, it was Ginny-Sally my dear German Shepherd that dad would walk for me on Wandsworth Common. How nice of you to connect, we will be having a series of exhibitions soon, I can let you know when they start. Thank you for taking the time to leave a few words.
